This June, I took planes, trains, and automobiles to get to NYC for a reading of William Ivers' The World Was Yours after a storm cancelled my original travel accommodations. It was wild, and so is this play! I love how its characters explore how artists talk to each other across generations, which is a feat I think we all need more practice in on a broader level. I played Joy, a muralist who wants to yell her opinions as loud as she can, partly because she doesn't feel like she can be heard. This is different from my quiet, contemplative approach but reminded me of my younger peers. As someone who straddles the cusp between millennial and Gen Z, I felt like I had a unique perspective on where generations miss each other, and where they say something profound. I'd love to know what you think about it!
I'd love to continue to uplift these artists.
If you would, please take a look at the links below, take some time, and love on them, too! ![]() In May, I got to dance alongside some lovely humans one last time at the Firehouse Theatre in Saturday Night Fever! I got to do my favorite thing by supporting this story from the Ensemble, alongside some hot people singing and dancing and the Bee Gees. Saturday Night Fever
Direction by Owen and Ally Beans Music Direction by Jason Philip Solís Choreography by J. Austin Eyer Spring to Summer of 2023 is best spent with Amphibian Stage! As part of my internship with them for their summer arts festival SparkFest, I was able to introduce a little dramaturgy to their season for their production of Baba by Denmo Ibrahim in the form of an audience guide to help connect the Fort Worth community to this beauty of a play. This dramaturgy consisted of uplifting voices and the MENASA culture in this play in order to foster deeper connections from the audiences to its beauty and its hardship. I was grateful to have contributions from scholars and from those I call friend. Baba by Denmo Ibrahim at Amphibian Stage | Directed by Hamid Dehghani For fans of Everything Everywhere All At Once, The Farewell, Aftersun, and Undone, Baba is where family meets fantasy. Trapped in the absurd circus of the office of US Passport & Immigration, a desperate father pleads his case—a passport for his little girl—revealing the price he paid for the American Dream in the process. Thirty years later, his daughter Layla embarks on a journey halfway across the world in hopes of reclaiming the lost pieces of her culture, her father, and herself.
Back on February 20th, I joined the creatives at Wild Imaginings for an episode of their Imagine This: A Theater Podcast to chat about Experiential Dramaturgy!
You can catch the episode anywhere podcasts are streamed, by listening directly below, or by visiting the buttons further below. This past week, I had the honor of serving as a panelist for the Literary Managers and Dramaturgs of the Americas' Decoupled Digital 2023 Conference, Dramaturgical Landscapes. Alongside our thoughtful leader Suzi Elnaggar, colleagues Trent Sutton, Abigail Dillard, and I reflected upon the landscape of producing new works in Waco, TX, with our panel: UNCHARTED WATERS: Starting New Works Festivals & Programming in Unexpected Places It was an honor to contribute to this work! If you are already a LMDA member, you can access it at the digital conference hub below. If not, contact me, and I'm happy to talk about it!
#yaynewworks! Come join me at the Firehouse Theatre for a hat trick as I team up with King Arthur's clan in Monty Python's Spamalot! I get to do my favorite thing by supporting this story from the Ensemble, where you'll see me not yet dead, cheer on the Lady of the Lake as one of her Laker Girls, and even as a "harmless" bunny. This one's been quite a laugh! Monty Python's Spamalot
