Spring to Summer of 2023 is best spent with Amphibian Stage! As part of my internship with them for their summer arts festival SparkFest, I was able to introduce a little dramaturgy to their season for their production of Baba by Denmo Ibrahim in the form of an audience guide to help connect the Fort Worth community to this beauty of a play. This dramaturgy consisted of uplifting voices and the MENASA culture in this play in order to foster deeper connections from the audiences to its beauty and its hardship. I was grateful to have contributions from scholars and from those I call friend. Baba by Denmo Ibrahim at Amphibian Stage | Directed by Hamid Dehghani For fans of Everything Everywhere All At Once, The Farewell, Aftersun, and Undone, Baba is where family meets fantasy. Trapped in the absurd circus of the office of US Passport & Immigration, a desperate father pleads his case—a passport for his little girl—revealing the price he paid for the American Dream in the process. Thirty years later, his daughter Layla embarks on a journey halfway across the world in hopes of reclaiming the lost pieces of her culture, her father, and herself.
