As a dramaturg, I'm a major advocate for new works in theatre. I'm beyond excited to welcome these three playwrights and their new plays to Fort Worth for the New Works leg of Amphibian Stage's 2024 SparkFest!

These three plays and playwrights were selected from a pool of over 100 submissions. My team of readers (shoutout to Amanda Tafeen, Suzi Elnaggar, Caili Crow, Liana Irvine, Carman Lacivita, Illana Stein, Jihye Kim, Libby Nicolay, Lindsay L. Barr, Ryan Henry, Sloan Garner, Will Forrest,  Yejia Sun & Amphibian's thoughtful staff) and I sifted through each story, falling in love with so many along the way.  There are many more lovely stories than just these that I am slowly recommending on my NPX page, if you'd like to read some for yourself.

I'd love to do a little spotlight on the plays selected for development and performance at this year's festival and encourage you to come join us at SparkFest!

Did You Eat? (밥 먹었니?) by Zoë Kim

is an autobiographical solo show about love.

"It’s a play about how we learn to love, how we love, and how we love ourselves. It’s a love letter to my inner child and hopefully to yours, too." - Zoë Kim

barren by Alex Lin

Yifei is an OB/GYN. Yifei wants a baby. Yifei is barren.

What crueler irony is there for a baby doctor who can’t have a baby? One that tasks her with ensuring a safe, happy, and healthy delivery for her formerly estranged younger sister, Max.

barren is the story of two sisters navigating two entirely different fates in finding, creating, and embracing family.

You Are Cordially Invited to the End of the World!  by Keiko Green

Greg’s received a terminal diagnosis. At least he’s in good company—the planet’s on its last legs, too. Coincidence? Not for Greg. After all, the world’s too big not to be kind of magical.

In this theatrical spectacle, M uses metatheatricality and the joy of dance and theatre to explore themes of grief, dying, and our connection to the Earth.

I'm happy to announce that our Digital Development Project is teaming up with She NYC Arts to offer dramaturgy for their LA festival productions - digitally, of course!

WHAT I'M WORKING ON:

Picture
Ink & Paint, a new musical about the real Disney princesses—the women whose art brought vibrance, life, and character to some of the studio’s most groundbreaking animated films with book, music, & lyrics by Danielle Moore. I'm loving the chance to shadow the brilliant Emma Bilderback on this new musical.
